Diaphragm Pump Preventative Maintenance Guide

Diaphragm pumps—both Air Operated (AODD) and Electrically Operated (EODD) configurations—are the workhorses of industrial fluid transfer. However, without regular preventative diagnostics, performance degradation or diaphragm failure can occur, leading to hazardous solvent spills and downtime. ### 1. Diaphragm Torque Maintenance During operation, temperature fluctuations and high fluid pressure cause elastomers to shift. Check flange bolt torque settings every 100 operating hours. Loose bolts lead to liquid leakage and casing cracks, while over-tightening crushes seats. ### 2. NRV Ball and Seat Inspection Check valves control pump flow. Inspect ball roundness and seat wear surfaces. Chemical wear and scoring allow backflow, reducing pump efficiency by up to 40%. ### 3. Clean Driving Supply Moisture in the air line or electric motor overheating leads to valve icing and motor stall events. Install proper filter-regulators or thermal protection loops to extend your pump lifetime.
